In this third volume of the adult Jeremiah Tucker Gunfighter series, a much older Jeremiah returns to the Coffeyville courtroom with his wife, Lilly, where he was sentenced to hang thirty years earlier. As usual, he is surrounded by reporters wanting to hear more stories about his gunfighting days. “It was in this very courtroom,” he tells the reporters, “maybe I was even sitting in this same chair, but the story I got to tell you didn’t start here, but over in Sheriff Hunter’s jail. I was sitting in my jail cell waiting for the hangman to send for me.”

I have come to like the Jeremiah Tucker Gunfighter series of short stories and I do recommend them to people who like westerns where those that "deserve justice" get it. If you followed Jeremiah from the first book you will know the killing and the gun fighting were not of his choosing, but became a matter of survival. Maybe his nick name should be the rattlesnake because he is deadly, but if you leave him alone there is no problem.Speaking of problems and this is why a 4 and not a 5 star rating is given is the superfluous use of some "F" bangers in the story. While I understand it is labeled as an "adult" novel, and I am sure language in the west was rough and some of the wrongs promulgated to innocent people were horrific, the few "f'ers just seemed unnecessary. I am not saying a story has to be sanitized, but it also does not need to be blatant. So I would do it different, but I can look past that for the story content and will continue to seek out this series as it develops.

Enjoyable Western reading.
Fun story line, interesting characters.
The series is enjoyable, and it's not necessary to read the first in the series, as the plot is setup for each book.
Read it and deleted it, Egregious violence, the bad the worse and the sexually abused, two dimensional characters, plot jumps back and forth, protagonist is unlikeable, cheats at gunplay, but at least he kills only those too stupid to back down.
